0800 (8am) and it is almost time to go. Your tie is good. Is mine? Fixed my gig line. Our seabags are covered and aligned outside. Watches off. My buddy just picked a piece of lint off my shoulder. Wow, that is a lot of people! Where are they sitting? Where is my family? Where are my friends? These people are looking at us because we look so good. We are marines. Holy moly! We’re marines!
Two years ago, on January 20, 2012, I graduated Marine Corps bootcamp at Parris Island, SC. It truly is difficult to believe what I went through was real. Three months of the worst (and best) time of my life. I am proud of what I have accomplished and I love where I have ended up. All, of course, by the grace of God. There has never been a moment of my time in the marines where I have thought myself as the sole contributor to my success. God, the Almighty, has guided my footsteps. From the yellow footprints to the Dining Hall at the Wilds, the Lord has been good.
It is wonderful to be a part of the ministry at the Wilds by cooking for campers and staff. Not only do I get to be at a place I love, but I also get to do something I enjoy and get to continue to be marine. Once a month I continue to drill in Greenville, SC where we do various training and spend two weeks of each year training in our MOS (job). Drills normally fall on the first weekend of every month with some exceptions. Thankfully my unit is not very far away and I can easily get to and from drill weekends. It is also nice to be able to volunteer for events that our unit needs help with.
Once my contract at the Wilds is complete I plan on pursuing opportunities to go active duty. One of the primary tracks I am looking at is going into MARSOC (Marine Special Operations Command). I have expressed interest and communicated more information in previous posts (feel free to check those out).
If there are any prayer warriors still out there please continue to pray for me, my future, the Marine Corps, and the United States of America. In God we trust. On His foundation I stand. By His grace I have life.
Feel free to ask any questions seeing as I have most likely forgotten something. Thank you for your support. Thank you for your prayers. Looking forward to what the Lord has in store.
